Skares Surface Mine
Location: Cumnock, East Ayrshire
The Skares Road site was the Group's first surface coal mine and was acquired as a project buyout by the management team in 1998. Covering some 600ha the site has produced over 4.5 million tonnes and is anticipated to continue in production until 2011. The site has been worked in a number of areas, the last of these being D Remainder which is expected to complete coaling in Summer 2011. The site has been progressively restored to mixed grazing and woodlands and some 25,000 trees have been planted to date.
Netherton Surface Mine
Location: Cumnock, East Ayrshire
Netherton was granted planning permission in June 2010 and is due to commence operations in October 2010 for a period of 8-10 years including restoration. Covering some 127ha, the site is expected to produce around 4m tonnes of coal.
Glenmuckloch Surface Mine
Location: 5 miles east of New Cumnock
Glenmuckloch was acquired in June 2005, along with the Grievehill site, from Scottish Coal with an estimated coal reserve of 2.8 million tonnes.
The site commenced operations in the summer of 2006 and started producing coal in September of the same year. All coal produced from the site is transported directly to ATH Resources' Crowbandsgate railhead via a 12km overland conveyor. This conveyor, known as The Lochside Runner, is the longest of its type in Europe and can transport up to 500 tonnes per hour.
Laigh Glenmuir/Duncaziemere Surface Mines
Location: East Ayrshire
Laigh Glenmuir
This site completed operations in October 2009.
Duncaziemere
Ducanziemere, which is an extension to Laigh Glenmuir Surface Mine, is due to commence operations during 2011 and is expected to continue for a period of 5.5 years including restoration.
Muir Dean Surface Mine
Location: Crossgates, Fife
The Muir Dean site commenced operations in the summer of 2007. It is estimated to produce in excess of 2.0 million tonnes of coal during its life span. Low sulphur coal from the site is sent to the nearby Longannet power station.
The site covers 180Ha of mixed farmland and woodland. During the life of the site mining activities will intercept the Fordel Day level, East Scotland's most polluting mine discharge and collect and pump the water to a purpose built mine water treatment facility to clean the water prior to discharging into the local water courses.
Doncaster
The Groups head office is located in a new office building close
to the town centre in Doncaster. Being only 1 1/2 hours from London
by train Doncaster is an ideal base from which to administer the
Group whilst enabling regular contact with our major ESI customers,
who are located in the Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire, as well as
being able to conveniently meet with our other stakeholders based
in London.
Crowbandsgate Railroad
Location: New Cumnock, East Ayrshire
The Group's railroad at Crowbandsgate is used to dispatch coal to
our Electricity Supply Industry customers. The railroad can handle
upto 30 trains per week. Each train can carry some 1,400 tonnes
of coal in 20 wagons.
